There are some of us that like the minimal gym bag with a t-shirt, a pair of runners, and a towel. However, if your gym bag is anything like mine you have acquired a lot of training items over the years. Sometimes having the right training items can add appeal to going to the gym for a workout when you’re already feeling tired, or sometimes they can add variety to a stale routine. Some of the items in my gym bag keep me motivated, like having an MP3 player to play my favourite playlists. I have listed some recommended products below.
Bluetooth Mp3 Player
I know that all of our smart phones have Bluetooth capabilities these days, but phones can be distracting. With all the emails, texts, social media notifications that constantly bombard us, it’s difficult to resist the temptations of constantly checking our phones. I prefer to lock my phone in a locker and train distraction free. That’s why I like to listen to my music from an Mp3 player.
This Mp3 Player is perfect for the gym because it is small, lightweight, has bluetooth (no wires), and has a clip to clip onto clothing. You don’t need a bulking arm strap to carry it, and it won’t weigh down your pockets. Plus it comes with a mini usb charging cable which is commonly used for Android devices. The battery life and storage capabilities are both impressive for such an inexpensive product. It even plays the radio!
Bluetooth headphones are one of the best investments I have made for my training. Whether I am doing cardio or strength training, the added benefit of not getting tangled in wires while listening to music, is amazing. When I pair bluetooth headphones with a bluetooth mp3 player, I can listen to music, audio books, radio or podcasts on the go and without any wires.
There are many bluetooth headphones on the market now. My preferance is an earbud style with a clip that goes around the ear because this keeps the headphones in place when performing sprint training, cardio, heavy weight training, or even plyometrics. This allows them to be used for a variety of sporting activities without any issues or discomfort.
A Training Program
This seems obvious, right? Well too often I see people wandering around the gym making their training program up as they go along. While you may not think that there is a difference between working out with or without a program, having someone design a program for you allows you to take your mind off of what you think you should be doing and just focus on what you have to do for that day. Hip Strengthening Band
I have written about mini bands and their benefits before HERE. If that article didn’t convince you of their effectiveness, let me try again. The mini band is a versatile tool that allows for hip strengthening and correction. Because we sit so much in our daily lives, our hip musculature becomes inactive. The mini band allows us to re-engage these inactive muscles and get them working again. Not to mention, using it as preparation for major powerlifting movements (squats and deadlifts) can increase your performance and improve your technique.
Both of these bands are awesome because they are made of canvas instead of rubber. The canvas allows for you to slip it on and off alot faster and it is far more comftorable to wear. This means that you will be more likely to use them. They also provide more resistance than the average mini band, which is beneficial for powerlifters, and weightlifters.
